Welcome to Queen Mary

Joining Queen Mary

Welcome to University! We're delighted you've joined us as a Queen Mary student.

You've read the prospectus, done hours of research and made the most of Welcome Week – but what can you expect from your first year with us?

Starting university is an incredibly unique and exciting time, and we're here every step of the way to ensure your transition is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We hope the following information will be useful.

We've worked hard to adapt to the challenges of the past year and the result is a world-class education and vibrant student experience within a community that puts health and wellbeing front and centre.

This means we'll continue to provide a mix of on-campus and online education. Depending on your programme, you can expect a blend of seminars, small-group teaching, practical sessions and laboratory work. Your School will have been in touch with the specifics of what to expect as part of your programme.

Student experience

All of our campus facilities are now open for the start of Semester 1, so you can get involved in activities we've got planned, and make the most of our social spaces.

Queen Mary Students' Union offer a wide range of opportunities for you to meet new people, spark new interests and gain more skills and experiences.  The Students’ Union is home to over 300 diverse sports clubs, societies and volunteering groups to join, as well as an events programme that includes daytime activities, sport, club nights and lots of other social events that you can attend.

The Students’ Union also runs Qmotion, the on-campus Sport and Fitness Centre, and a range of shops, cafes, bars and social spaces where you can meet up with friends, take a break or grab something to eat after a lecture.

The Students’ Union also exists to support you during your time at University. It provides an Academic Advice Service, runs numerous liberation campaigns throughout the year and works to improve the education and welfare of all students through its elected student representatives.

A huge and important part of your time at university is also about what’s on offer outside of your studies. It's about meeting new friends, finding new interests and making your home here in London, while being a part of the Queen Mary community.

There really is something for everyone.

Guidance to keep us safe

Our guidance for all staff and students has been updated in line with the lifting of all legal restrictions, but remaining cautious is key to keeping us all safe.

Throughout your time here, you’ll have access to a range of services to support your emotional wellbeing and help you stay safe and well, so you can begin your time at Queen Mary with confidence and excitement.
