Your 2021 student experience

Your 2021 student experience

We're really looking forward to welcoming you onto our campuses this September.

We're getting ready to offer you a vibrant on-campus experience, with all the in-person educational and social activities you'd expect. All of London's attractions will be on your doorstep, and you'll also benefit from the safety and community of our campuses, with a full range of social activities – from sports to academic societies, special interest clubs and volunteering.

Your educational experience

Over the past year, we've been working with our students to continually improve our educational offer. The result is an experience that's tailored to you, bringing together the best of online and in-person education. We know how much students enjoy learning together in person and all of our programmes will have some on-campus education for you to enjoy. On-campus education will mostly be small group teaching: seminars, tutorials and practical work, depending on the subject area. Having some material delivered online enables you to learn at your own pace, revisiting material when you want to, while staying in close and easy contact with other students and our world-leading academic staff.

The pastoral support is amazing. I've got an academic adviser I can contact at any point, about anything.
— Sahil Karra, BA Politics (2nd year)

By developing this approach, we've ensured that we can respond to whatever challenges Covid-19 might throw at us. We are prepared for all scenarios and focused on ensuring you get the very best educational and social experience from the first day you join us in September.

Your safety

On 19 July, the UK Government lifted all remaining Covid-19 restrictions in England. That means:

  • no more social distancing
  • no limits on the size of gatherings inside or outside
  • the lifting of all restrictions on nightclubs, theatres and cinemas, pubs, restaurants and all other venues.

While this is welcome news, we are continuing to do everything we can to protect the health and wellbeing of all our communities. We will continue to offer support to any member of our community who feels anxious about the pandemic. We are also continuing to focus on ensuring our campuses are safe and secure. For instance:

  • We continue to ask everyone to test themselves for Covid-19 using a lateral flow test twice per week. We are hosting testing centres on our campuses and offering home testing kits to help make that as convenient as possible.
  • We are encouraging everyone to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.
  • We are continuing to make sure that all our buildings and rooms are well ventilated and cleaned to a high standard.
  • At the moment, we are recommending our communities wear face masks if they encounter crowded indoor spaces on our campuses.

We are reviewing all these policies weekly, to ensure we do everything we can to protect our communities’ health and wellbeing.

Impact of possible future changes in Government guidance

It is of course possible that Covid-19 case numbers rise to an extent that we are required by Government to reintroduce restrictions. We have a comprehensive plan in place and can at any point increase any of the controls above should the need arise. We could, for example, change our policy on face coverings, or reintroduce social distancing. If we had to implement a change in social distancing policy, due to Government instructions, it may lead to a temporary change in your timetable, and to the balance of on-campus and online education. If this happens, we will communicate the changes to you as quickly as we can. In an extreme scenario where the Government chooses to impose another lockdown, we can of course temporarily switch to purely online education. We can implement these plans quickly, should the need arise. Hopefully however none of these measures will be needed! Whatever the circumstance, we will ensure your teaching and learning outcomes are met.
